Making Protective Face Masks
Hello lovely people, long time no see. It's been a year since I last posted here! My crafting mojo had it's ups and downs these past months.
We are currently in the midst of a pandemic and I couldn't resist making masks for friends and family myself. After trying many different designs these are my favorite ones.
This is a mash up of several patterns that I tried and then I drafted my own in 3 sizes ( children, women, men)
and this is a 3D mask that I graded to create a children and men size.
For my masks I use 2 layers of 100% cotton fabric and non woven interfacing.
I really wish that we don't have to use this "accessory" for long but until then let's at least make them comfortable and fun.
Finally I plan to revamp my blog with a fresh look and hopefully more regular posts.
Much Love,
Mariliza
Lifesaver Quilt
Back in April my friend Zafeiro from Zarkadia Quilting Co. published her very first Quilt Pattern and I had the pleasure to pattern test for her.
The pattern is called the Lifesaver Quilt and it features a combination of a bow-tie block and a 16-patch block.
The pattern comes in two sizes (64''x 64'' and 88'' x 96'') and 4 styles. I chose to do a 64'' square quilt in style 4 that has a unified background fabric and different fabric for each lifesaver. I used a medium gray for my background and a fat quarter bundle of Blue Beauty collection by Art Gallery Fabrics for my lifesaver blocks.
This is a very straight forward pattern with detailed instructions that uses either yardage or fat quarters and solids or prints. As you can understand the possibilities are endless .
I love my finished quilt so much that I even decided to do free motion quilting for the first time. I have to admit I was a bit scared that I would mesh it up and my quilting is not good but it's not that bad either.
My favorite features of the pattern are the printable tags and the color your quilt page where you can play around with ideas of color placement.
Overall I'm very happy with my finished quilt and I can't wait to use it when the weather is cold again.
You can find the pattern and more photos and details in Zafeiro's shop

Back in November I saw a test call by Audrey of YarnFlakes for a beautiful shawl pattern and I decided to give it a try.
I found the pattern very enjoyable and also very beginner friendly.
Ideal for trying new techniques like one color brioche and mosaic knitting in small sections between mindless garter, your shawl will be finished before you know it.
Audrey provides a helpful video tutorial on mosaic knitting as well. (That helped me a lot since I have never done mosaic or colorwork before.)
I personally love the size and shape of this shawl. Big enough to wrap around your neck but not huge (as much as I like big shawls sometimes I feel that they swallow me).
I dyed the yarn for the shawl myself using acid dyes and as soon as the yarn was dry I knew I had to make it for my sister in law because this are totally her colors but I want to make one for myself too.
You can check my ravelry page and my YouTube channel if you want more details.
See you soon,
Mariliza
It's that time of the year again that Instagram is taken over by the makenine challenge, an original idea by Rochelle of LuckyLucille and the @homerowfiberco. The idea behind makenine is to help makers to evaluate our motivations and needs for working towards specific things as the year goes on. Rochelle even put together 9 questions to help us with our pattern choices.
Long story short I decided to take part in this challenge with 18 makes, 9 sewing and 9 knitting ones.
My choices from top to bottom left to right:
1) Tamarac Jacket by grainline studio
2) Datura blouse by Deer and Doe
3)Archer button up by granline studio
4)Washi dress by Made by Rae
5)Rosa shirt dress by Tilly and the Buttons
6) Jamie jeans by Named Clothing
7)Cheyenne tunic by Heyjunehandmade
8)Bleuet dress by Deer and Doe
9)Charleston dress by Heyjunehandmade
I have all the patterns and fabric for most of them so these are going to be stashbusting projects!
1) Este by Justyna Lorkowska
2) Bentley Cardigan by Marie Greene
3)Worsted Boxy by Joji Locatelli
4) Find your Fade by Andrea Mowry
5) Pavement by Veera Välimäki
6) Wolke socks by Becky Sorensen
7) Campside shawl by Alicia Plummer
8) Moonlight garden shawl by Melody Hoffmann
9) Baa-ble-hat by Donna Smith
I also have all the knit patterns and most of the yarn so I am good to go!
I am a slow knitter so I don't think I will be able to finish all of my knitting projects but hopefully this challenge will help me stick to my plans and not get distracted by all the new beautiful patterns.
Enough talking I have to start making ... see you soon
